Palmetto Region PCA
Porsche Club of America - Palmetto Region

In November 1968, Dave and Babs Anderson, along with Warren and Diane Chard, discussed the idea of forming a PCA region here in South Carolina. After a month, the first organizational meeting was held at the Anderson home. Palmetto Region was born.

In March 1969, they had the necessary 15 members to file a petition for a charter. After several more months of work and planning, they were rewarded with the 76th charter granted by PCA. This was May 23, 1969. On July 19, 1969, the charter was formally presented by Dr. Leonard Turner. You can read more about our beginnings in our first newsletter from 1969.

Alan Nies, one of the founding members, is still a current member of PCA Palmetto. Several other names Roof, Chick, Turner, and Mathisen are included in a list of active members who joined in the early ‘70s and continue to contribute to leading Palmetto as we near the end of our fourth decade.

Palmetto members and the Palmetto region continue to move forward. From those original 15 members to 200+ today, we continue to grow while enjoying our passion. In 2006, Palmetto was in the top five nationally and led Zone 3 in growth. In 2009 we added the Georgetown and Willamsburg counties and then in 2011 we added the Dillon, Horry, Marion, and Marlboro countues. Join us as a member, a guest, or just visit to see what we are all about, all are welcomed.

Palmetto members continue to enjoy every aspect of PCA life. New faces, new ideas, and new cars continue to feed this passion. Palmetto’s location in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, making every outing a scenic adventure. Rallys, DEs, and roadtrips, all are a joy in our scenic setting.

Porsche Club of America - Carolinas Region
Porsche Club of America - Carolinas Region

With over 2700 members and affiliates we are the largest region in Zone 3 and the 7th largest of all PCA regions.

Additionally, the Carolinas Region is the largest geographical region in the PCA. Our region covers most of North and South Carolina. Because of our size, we are broken up into eight ‘Areas’ to better accommodate our size and geographic diversity. Each area is led by an Area Director and hosts a monthly meeting. View the Officers & Board page to identify your Area Director and the Region Map.

The Carolinas Region is extremely active. Each year we host multiple Drivers Education events, driving tours, SommerFest (a 3 day multi-event weekend), an Autocross Series, People Choice Concours (‘In Den Bergen’) and a regional Holiday Party. Our areas hold many local events such as Chili Cook-Offs, Wine Tours, Dinner Drives, Rallies, etc.

Porsche Club of America - Coastal Empire Region

The Coastal Empire Region (CER) of the Porsche Club of America includes Hilton Head Island, SC and metro Savannah, GA. Additionally, it includes Beaufort and Jasper counties in SC, and Bryan, Bullock, Chatham, Effingham, Evans, Liberty, Long, McIntosh and Screven counties in GA. The Coastal Empire Region is one of 140 Regions within 13 Zones in the US, Canada and Europe. It is one of four Regions in Georgia and three in South Carolina. CER was founded in 2001 and is in PCA Zone 3.

CERPCA is an active group with various activities throughout the month. We hold scheduled dinner meetings one night each month at various venues around the area. We sometimes feature a guest speaker and often have door prizes to give out. We also hold various other events monthly. It's exciting to have Porsches cruising down the road together to an interesting location. You are invited to attend all of these fun filled events to talk Porsche, meet new people and see new sights. Check the Events section of the web site for upcoming events and dinner meetings.

Coastal Empire Region provides Driver Education (DE) courses throughout the year. These events feature capable, experienced instructors in a safe, non-timed learning environment. Test and improve your driving proficiency at a DE. Your expertise may even lead you to participate in PCA Club Racing. DE’s and Club Races are held at several different venues within a few hours drive. Check the Driver Education section of the website.

Sports Car Club of America - South Carolina Region

The Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) is a national organization with over 40,000 members, committed to supporting and developing auto racing. South Carolina Region is one of 114 SCCA regions across the U.S. and is focused on organizing amateur motorsports events at the grassroots level, primarily in the Charleston, Columbia and Myrtle Beach areas.

South Carolina Region’s territory includes the Midlands, Lowcountry, and Pee Dee areas of South Carolina. The Upstate is part of neighboring Central Carolinas Region SCCA, and the two regions often work together to host events in that part of the state.

South Carolina Region was founded in the 1960’s as the Columbia Sports Car Club, an autocross and road rally club in Columbia, SC. In 1978, faced with the rising costs of insurance for independent car clubs and finding its members’ interests were expanding beyond autocross and rally to include time trial and club racing, the club petitioned to join SCCA as a new region. Central Carolinas Region agreed to cede Richland and Lexington counties, and South Carolina Region was born. In 1982, the Swamp Fox Region, which occupied the Pee Dee and Lowcountry areas, folded and its territory was merged with South Carolina’s to form the region we have today.
